In 1925 teams of huskies carried medicine nearly 700 miles across Alaska to a town struck by diphtheria. A statue of one, Balto, stands in New York.
Blue eyes are common, and so is having one blue eye and one brown.
Its double coat keeps it warm far below freezing. It curls up with its tail over its nose.
Huskies rarely bark. They howl, and make a range of sounds that owners call talking.
It can jump, dig under or squeeze through almost any fence, and will run for miles if it gets out.

A husky needs two hours of hard exercise a day and should be kept on a lead near roads and livestock. The coat sheds in great clumps twice a year. It copes badly with hot weather.
Huskies are friendly, stubborn and strong. They have a powerful urge to chase, and many end up in rescue because owners did not expect how much they need.
