Good to know

Six things about the ragdoll

Name

It goes floppy

It gets its name from the way it relaxes completely when picked up, like a rag doll.

New

A new breed

It was developed in California in the 1960s.

Pup

A puppy cat

It follows its people about, greets them at the door and can learn to fetch.

Born

Born white

Like the Siamese, kittens are born white and their colour comes in slowly over two years or so.

Big

One of the largest

It is one of the biggest breeds, though it never looks in a hurry.

Eyes

Always blue

Every Ragdoll has blue eyes.

Every day

Looking after one

Brush twice a week: the silky coat tangles less than a Persian's. It is trusting and not streetwise, so it is safest indoors or in a secure garden.

Think first

Before you get one

Ragdolls are gentle and patient, and suit homes where someone is around. Ask about heart testing in the parents.
